El Fort d'Ullastret: sleeping inside the history of the Empordà
Some places you return to for how they make you feel when you wake up. We'd like to introduce El Fort d'Ullastret — four new apartments in the heart of the old town of Ullastret, one of the best-preserved medieval villages in the Baix Empordà. Authenticity without compromise: no resorts, no residential complexes. Just stone, silence, and landscape.
Four apartments, each with its own character
The apartments, recently restored, range from 32 to 46 m² and each has its own personality. The first, a suite-style unit, is on the ground floor with a private entrance. The other three are on the first floor: one with two bedrooms and a private terrace, another with one bedroom, and the last with a bedroom and private balcony. All come with a living area, dining space, and fully equipped kitchen, as well as air conditioning, a Nespresso coffee maker, toaster, microwave, towels, and bathroom amenities.
The terrace that changes everything
At El Fort, the terrace belongs to everyone. 360-degree views over the fields of the Empordà and the horizon of the Costa Brava, and a shared gathering space where evenings stretch out on their own and the best conversations of the trip happen without warning. With a seating area, awning, outdoor shower, and string lights for summer evenings, it's the kind of place where hours slip by unnoticed.
Living like a local — without leaving the village
This is where Ullastret truly surprises. Not just a pretty village to photograph and leave behind — it's a living community, perched above the Empordà plain, with open views over the fields and a contemporary life that coexists naturally with centuries of history.
In the morning, breakfast at La Fusteria or La Saka, with local products and the unhurried atmosphere of those who start the day slowly. For cheeses and artisan products, Recuits Nuri is a must. For a glamorous sweet treat, the 1001 Pastisseria. For fashion and design, Boutique COVA brings a contemporary edge that surprises first-time visitors. For lunch or dinner, Can Quel and the Ibèric serve market-driven Catalan cuisine at excellent value. And now there's also the new restaurant El Fort, right at the foot of the apartments, with its own fresh take on local cooking.
All of it less than 4 minutes from "home".
Ullastret has a school and a year-round local life. A real village, not a stage set. And that's precisely what makes staying here a rare privilege in today's Empordà.
A perfect base for exploring
Ullastret is more than a beautiful village — it's a strategic starting point for discovering the Empordà. Just a short drive away are the Iberian settlement of Ullastret (one of the most significant in Catalonia), the restaurants of Peratallada and Pals, the beaches and coves of the Costa Brava, the markets of La Bisbal and Torroella, and the coastal paths that hug the shoreline. For those who prefer to stay close, Ullastret itself invites a slow, mapless wander.
El Fort d'Ullastret is the kind of discovery you keep close.
