BRUGAROL: THE ART OF LIVING
By Emma Aixalà

The Gavarres countryside hides the farms where the Brugarol Group produces its renowned wines and olive oils and offers fantastic experiences for guests and visitors.

Where the asphalt road ends, the forest trail and our adventure begin. We turn left and right among the oak and pine forest in this stretch of the Gavarres massif along a perfect path that leads us to an aptly named estate: Bell-lloc, or the beautiful place. We reach the ruins of the medieval Vila Romana de Palamós castle surrounded by vineyards and hills with the sea on the horizon. Under the watchful eye of Jaume Plensa's sculpture looming over the garden, we take in the kaleidoscope of experiences that Brugarol offers.

Set your suitcase down in any of the elegant and cozy rooms named after grape varieties, visit the spectacular Mas Antoniet, a restored Catalan farmhouse, or check out the unique apartment with a pool next to the vineyards and the cellar where you can participate in the September harvest. Visiting the cellar showcases an impressive underground area where the wines that Brugarol crafts slowly age. Taste the wines along with the excellent full breakfasts, lunches, and dinners: herbs and vegetables from their organic vegetable garden, eggs from their hens, goat and sheep cheeses, apples, jams, wine, extra virgin olive oil made with Picual, Arbequina, and Argudell olives, and fresh fish from the port of Palamós.

Agriculture and art in Mas Salvà and Mas del Vent

The Bell-lloc estate was the destination for Engelhorn family vacations in the Baix Empordà. With time and effort, it has become the group's epicenter, reaching far beyond this site. The Mas Salvà is a restored farmhouse that respects the original 13th century architecture through a beautiful space with contemporary art indoors and farm animals outdoors. The animals are tended by a shepherd and visitors can join him as he leads the herds to pasture. The fantastic Mas del Vent, originally called Mas Brugarol, is also full of mysteries. It's located at the heart of La Fosca Cove in Palamós, home to a farmhouse, a 16th century tower, and a Romanesque cloister of uncertain authenticity. This site can be visited through the Fishing Museum of Palamós and is perfect for holding events.

It's said that the Engelhorns believe in this land and are proud to be its guardians. Perhaps they are also aware that they guard these pleasant moments we take home, representing the best possible lifestyle: eating, drinking, sleeping, thinking, observing, and simply being.
