There’s a dirt road just a few kilometers from the monumental complex of Pals, right where the silhouette of the Montgrí massif is absolutely perfect. It's pleasant, quiet, and winding just like Mas Geli, the winery at the end of this adventure.
This is a family story that began in 2014, although it started out as a dream much earlier. “Since we were young, our parents shared the idea of making this family project a reality with us: living together in the Empordà, running a small vineyard, and making our own wine,” Anna states with her characteristic smile. She conveys a deep love for her work. “We were raised by parents who believed that working hard is a way to satisfy passions. We were able to take our hobby and turn it into a lifestyle.”
They have done it within the world of wine, but also with art and music which they’re passionate about as well: he is a composer of film soundtracks and an orchestra and choir conductor, and she has a degree in dramatic art and a musical career in the vocal group “In Crescendo” along with Lluís. Inevitably, music envelops Mas Geli in the same way that a clef brings together the loose lines on a staff. It does so when the tramuntana winds howl, when it rains on the dry land, when the vineyards are pruned, when the grapes are pressed, when each bottle is filled and each wine is christened with the name of Soloist, Notes, or La Gran Nit, a wine that is quite a spectacle because it has been aged in granite amphoras with minimal intervention.
This year, the Mas Geli winery is celebrating its tenth anniversary, caring for, fifteen hectares of organic vineyards as if it were a garden with native varieties such as red and white Grenache, red and white Cinsaut, and Malvasia.
