The Can Mario Museum of Contemporary Sculpture, managed by the Vila Casas Foundation, is located in Palafrugell, in the Baix Empordà region. This space, opened in 2004, occupies an old 19th-century industrial building, which was originally a cork warehouse, a symbol of the industrial tradition of the area. Today, Can Mario has been transformed into a cultural reference exclusively dedicated to contemporary sculpture.
The museum houses a permanent collection of more than 300 sculptures created by Catalan artists and residents of Catalonia from the second half of the 20th century to the present day. The pieces, made in a wide variety of materials and techniques, reflect the diversity and innovation of contemporary sculptural language.
In addition to its permanent collection, Can Mario organizes temporary exhibitions that allow visitors to discover new artistic proposals and reflect on current issues from the perspective of sculpture. The museum also has a sculpture garden and cultural activities that enrich the public experience.
Can Mario is a place where creativity and industrial tradition meet, offering a unique space to appreciate the evolution of contemporary sculpture in an environment full of history and cultural significance.
