I'm truly fortunate to be able to call the Empordà my home and experience its magic and essence every day. I love strolling past and glancing at olive groves and vineyards that spread across the horizon or swimming in the coves of the Costa Brava and feeling the cool water of the sea. And the region’s typical dishes can’t be beat. I cherish discovering the history of the Empordà that families share with me. |

History is full of fascinating spots just waiting to be discovered. When this happens, time stops and a handful of characters, landscapes, and passions come to life and captivate us forever. The Cap Roig castle and gardens in Calella de Palafrugell are one of those stories now shining with their own legendary tale. This is possible thanks to the archival work that the ”la Caixa” Foundation has carried out with an impressive range of archives that reveal the extraordinary Empordanese adventures of the couple Dorothy Muriel Webster and Nicolau Woevodski. |

By Jordi Basté

At the end of 2021 Calonge surprised everyone by announcing the opening of seven bookstores at the same time. It was an unusual and rather courageous bet that has turned this town in the Baix Empordà into the first book town in Catalonia. A year and a half later, one store has closed, but the others remain well alive, boasting titles that fill the calendar with all kinds of activities and our souls with the best literature, essay, comic, travel, music, and culinary publications. The renowned journalist Jordi Basté shares his thoughts on this initiative. |
Paratge de TudelaTHE SECOND AWAKENING
By Emma Aixalà

It’s an inhospitable, wild, energetic, and inspiring place. Salvador Dalí himself captured shadows, shapes, and volumes here and presented them in some of his most iconic works. In the 1960s a tourist complex deformed the site and ripped its essence apart until, a few decades later, an environmental restoration project returned the purity that should never have been taken away. |
Girona Excel·lentTHE SEAL OF AGRICULTURAL QUALITY
By Redacció
The Provincial Government of Girona promoted the Girona Excel·lent seal of quality based on the idea that local culinary culture is not limited to the kitchen or to restaurants. Rather, restaurants are the expression of the land’s culinary wealth, variety, and excellence. In other words, the fact that the cuisine from Girona’s counties remains one of the most influential in the world is not something that happened overnight. |
Taps de FincaDEVOTED TO LOCAL CORK

Cork oak trees ready. Peelers focused. Axes sharpened. Cork stripping begins. Chop... first vertical blows to the bark... chop... the first turns with the axe to lift the bark, the part of the tree that will have to regenerate the cork... chop... the first horizontal marks to determine the height of the strip or piece... chop... a few more cuts... chop... hands and axes in synch so, with a final split, the cork will forever leave the tree it once covered. |
